President John Dramani Mahama has announced that 10 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) have been prepared for listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE).

According to President Mahama, the move is intended to improve governance and accountability, strengthen the profitability of the enterprises and reduce political interference in their management.

He made the announcement during a side event titled “A Conversation with President John Dramani Mahama” in New York on Friday, September 25, 2026, where he discussed Ghana’s investment climate and energy access.

President Mahama said transforming the enterprises into publicly listed companies would make it easier to hold management accountable while allowing Ghanaians to buy shares and benefit from their performance.

He also pointed to the impact of Ghana’s political transition cycle, saying changes in government often lead to the removal of chief executives and the dissolution of boards at state-owned entities.

According to him, listing the companies would make such political interference more difficult and encourage greater institutional stability.

President Mahama also cited an improvement in the financial performance of state-owned enterprises. He said figures presented at the latest State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) programme showed that SOEs collectively recorded a net profit of almost GH¢19 billion after years of combined losses.

On investment, the President said Ghana remained attractive to investors, highlighting the country’s electricity coverage and access to reliable power.

He said Ghana has more than 90 per cent electricity coverage, while government is using solar and other off-grid solutions in areas where extending the national grid is impractical.

President Mahama further said foreign direct investment increased from $640 million in 2024 to $2.6 billion by the end of 2025, which he linked partly to improvements in the country’s investment environment.
