North Korea has criticised US military support for Taiwan while reaffirming its support for Russia, highlighting Pyongyang’s closer alignment with China and Moscow.
North Korea has criticised the United States over its military support for Taiwan, accusing Washington of increasing tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
A commentary published by North Korea’s state news agency KCNA condemned US arms sales to Taiwan, including the delivery of F-16V fighter jets, and warned Washington about the consequences of confronting China over the island.
The comments reflect Pyongyang’s alignment with Beijing’s position on Taiwan. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had previously expressed support for China’s “One China” principle during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in June.
Meanwhile, Kim Jong Un has reaffirmed North Korea’s support for Russia in a birthday message to President Vladimir Putin. He said Pyongyang would continue cooperation under their comprehensive strategic partnership and expressed confidence in Russia’s eventual victory.
North Korea and Russia have strengthened military and diplomatic ties in recent years, including through a mutual defence pact signed in 2024. Ukraine and South Korea estimate that North Korea has sent thousands of troops to support Russia in its war effort since 2024.
The developments come as North Korea continues to deepen relations with both China and Russia while tensions remain high between Pyongyang, Washington and their regional allies.
