Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following a High Court warrant issued for his arrest.

The MP arrived at the EOCO office on Thursday, October 1, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, and other Members of Parliament.

The decision follows an order issued by the Accra High Court on September 30, authorising EOCO to arrest the legislator after the agency told the court it had exhausted reasonable means of securing his voluntary attendance.

EOCO had previously attempted to take the MP into custody at the Accra High Court on September 23, resulting in a confrontation between the legislator and individuals believed to be EOCO officials.

According to the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the investigation concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Ltd. The suspected offences include financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering. The allegations have not been determined by a court.

The High Court warrant was granted after EOCO told the court it was concerned that documents relevant to its investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed.

Baffour Awuah is expected to engage with investigators as EOCO continues its probe.
