US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with “annihilation” if no agreement is reached, while Tehran says it is prepared to respond to any further US attacks.
US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of “annihilation” if a deal is not reached, escalating tensions as both sides continue to exchange threats amid the ongoing conflict.
Trump issued the warning during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. However, he later told reporters that US officials had held a “very good” three-hour meeting with Iranian representatives and that another meeting was expected soon.
Iran’s military rejected Trump’s threat and said it was prepared to respond with what it described as “crushing” attacks if further action was taken against the country.
Iranian authorities have also reported growing pressure from US sanctions. Iranian media said flights to Iraq and Oman were being suspended, while flights to Azerbaijan had also been disrupted.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi meanwhile met his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Araghchi criticised France’s position on the conflict and accused Paris of applying what he described as “double standards.”
The confrontation is also having wider regional consequences. Fighting in Yemen has reportedly displaced about 130,000 people internally, while thousands more have crossed the sea toward Djibouti and Somalia, according to figures cited by the United Nations.
The latest developments come as diplomatic efforts continue at the UN General Assembly, with international leaders facing growing concerns over the conflict, regional security and the humanitarian impact of the fighting.
